From the article:
Student federation president Romeo Ahimakin said the yoga program was not canceled because of a complaint. Rather, the program was suspended while students were consulted âto make it better, more accessible and more inclusive to certain groups of people that feel left out in yoga-like spaces. ... We are trying to have those sessions done in a way in which students are aware of where the spiritual and cultural aspects come from, so that these sessions are done in a respectful manner.â
The day yoga needs a safe space is the day parody meets reality. That day has come.
Me talking:
I just watched the Safe Space South Park episode on another thread.
See post #39 and link to entire article in post #25.
Part of me is still wary of Yoga as a form of worship/spirtualness of pagan gods. But - I suppose if you replace the pagan thought with Psalms.....
Oh - and it was being led by a white woman!!! (Just kidding, I'm not THAT old fashioned.)
Thanks for the link to this thread! I’m sorry to say that I just had an “authentic” Mexican dinner. Believe it or not, this very topic came up with a friend, who said, “pretty soon we won’t be allowed to eat here, due to ‘cultural appropriation.’”
