While I agree with the idea of a safe zone in the mideast there are some serious problems with the idea.
Right off the top it has to be on somebody elses territory and that’s the beginning of the next war. After all, artificially created borders are a never ending source of problems in the mideast as it is.
Somebody has to pay for it and we’re talking about billions of dollars to feed, clothe, house, keep secure etc. You can’t just put Sunnis, Shiites, Kurds, Yazidis, and Christians together in happy happy joy joy camp without them killing each other starting with the Christians. You’ll also have ISIS, Al Qeada and every other terror group in the region infiltrating the camp and recruiting.
Its an insurmountable mountain even in the short term that is pointless to talk about until the world is ready to take on the true source of the problem which is islam itself.
Yep, there are problems.....and it is the next war....in a way, Israel is itself a “safe zone” idea - since 1948. (Now there are historical realities that justify this stretching from the days of Solomon and before through WW2 - but it does show that a “safe zone” is going to create long long lasting tensions and fighting.
