A cousin of mine was working at the WTC on 9-11; he got out safely, and one thing he said he noticed was the sea of women’s high heel shoes all over the place as women took them off so they could run...and they were running barefoot over broken glass, sharp metal, etc...
So, if I could add something to this great list, it would be to always wear shoes that fit correctly, that cover your feet completely, and that you can RUN in!!

I could not agree more but I would go further. Without good footwear, the individual is at a serious disadvantage for both the flight or fight options. Some will no doubt make bad decisions because they are looking at style issues with shoes but as for me, I now wear a very good set of light Kevlar hiking boots just about all the time. I can run just about as fast I could in running shoes, they have a good protective sole for sharp things, they grip well (important for slippery floors or in winter or mud), they protect you from going over on an ankle. And they are just tough enough that you can kick like a mule with them.
