Many of the houses I delivered newspapers to in the 1960's had blue stars in their front windows, and some had gold.

For those who don't know, the blue meant a family member suffered a wartime service-related injury. Gold meant the family's soldier died in service.

Not correct. The blue star only means someone in the house is serving during war time, like the husband or a son.
