I couldnt believe my eyes or ears when Ben Carson was asked about what his response would have been had he been president on 9/11. I couldnt believe his answer. He said that a better response than sending troops to Afghanistan to hunt down al Qaida would have been to make an all out effort to achieve energy independence.
Carson was only echoing what he wrote in his book 'America the Beautiful':
'After the 9/11 crisis almost everyone united behind President George W. Bush for a reason. Whether Americas ensuing steps into war in Afghanistan and Iraq will be seen as positive remains to be seen, but I canât help thinking there may have been a better way to react that would not have cost us so many lives and financial capital. I believe that if the president had seized the moment and declared that we would become petroleum independent within the next 10 years as part of our efforts to strip terrorism of its resources, that business, industry, academia, & everyone else would have been foursquare behind him, and we would have been much further ahead in the fight against terrorism than we are today.'
So we are on notice. If terrorists attack America on our soil and kill 3,000 people, a President Ben Carson would not send in the troops. And our enemies are on notice, too.
This remarkable remark should rule him out as a presidential candidate. We needed to send in troops to keep al Qaida on its heels to keep the terrorists hopping from cave to cave, lest they be caught in the open and killed.
In the days after 9/11, nobody would have predicted that there would be no more attacks of that magnitude. It was our presence in Afghanistan that stopped al Qaida from getting its act together sufficiently to pull off a sequel.
Energy independence is well and good. And it is now within our grasp. But it took the new technology of fracking and a great deal of energy conservation to achieve it. (We are using over 1 million fewer barrels of oil per day now than we did in 2000.) It took us more than a decade to get where we are. To see this as an adequate response to such an attack is absurd.
No more Ben Carson for me!
Carson is an idiot. Time for a handful of Conservatives to wake up to that one.
This was posted today at the Right Wing News site. Carson is getting new scrutiny and his Pacifists beliefs are giving us a glimpse of how he would respond to a brutsl attack on our country.
A proper pacifist response.
Never mind, Rush Limbaugh will come for his rescue.
Carson is in the process of self destruction.
Don’t pile on. It’s not right. lol
Not pacifist, Carson had no idea of Salafist movement, Islam and tribes in middle east.
It is intriguing in principle: sap the power of the oil rich Islamic Middle East. It could even be done if America would tolerate the tariffs. What could not be done is pursuing unicorn moonbeams for energy, so to speak, as in our current “liberal” schemes.
By the way saying no more Carson for you is like saying no more water for a dog with hydrophobia.
Not good if he really said that. We don’t need a pacifist running out country. Carson appears to be coming unglued at the seams.
Au contraire, jenny. He *is* a pacifist and therefore will not attack, even when attacked first.
Turn the other cheek, you know...
“Never mind, Rush Limbaugh will come for his rescue.”
Some of the attacks are defensible. However there are some that are not such as the 51 state thing and the TPP support. Now this if he really said that.
Turn the other cheek to be sure — but also don’t feed the rabid bulldog.
Really said that?!
It’s in his book, isn’t it?
I didn’t write the article.
If we want to be attacked hard and often by Islamic terrorists, Carson will achieve that. Our enemy can smell weakness.
They’re calling him a “pacifist” because he’s a Seventh Day Adventist, and they are generally pacifists based on their church’s doctrine.

Conservativejoy: Boss, they are on to us, what do I do.
Karl Rove: You know the drill. You take the RED pill and we deny we ever heard of you.
Actually I agree with his answer, and I disagree with him on a lot. But I agree with it *in addition to* hunting down and eliminating Al Qaida. And I wouldn’t have tried to “nation build” in Afghanistan, which is and was a fool’s errand. The expensive part of Afghanistan, both in lives and treasure, has been the nation building aspect, not the punitive expedition.
I like the way you have modified the boilerplate here. It’s got a link and is way more self-referential.
Your troll skills are improving, MNJohnnie. Bravo!
Wow reading the comments here. Sounds just like a typical Leftist blog. Bile laced tirades and chidlish personal attacks
When did “Conservatives” decide hysteric personal attack could be substituted for reason?
You people are your own worst enemies. These bile laced tirades may make the Cruz worshipers hearts beat faster, they just cause everyone else to point at you children and laugh.
