Word For The Day, Monday, 11/9/15
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
frangible; adj.
1. easily broken; breakable: Most frangible toys are not suitable for young children.
Etymology: early 15c., from Middle French frangible, from Medieval Latin frangibilis, from Latin frangere "to break" (see fraction ).
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
Practice makes perfect.....post on....
dontcha just hate that ; ) A+++
looks yummy! when are your daughter and SIL coming?
Boats too. Everything breaks up or breaks off except the driver’s capsule.
They will be on the road with everything packed by December 1st. They are spending Thanksgiving week with his family...they only have one more week of work to go as they gave notice at to their employers and their landlady. It’s happening. Daughter says she bagged up 8 bags of clothing to give to the mission out there. She won’t need such an extensive wardrobe of summer things.
you must be beside yourself with joy!
Yeah, today and tomorrow I am cleaning out all four bedroom closets and emptying two of them to make room. I seem to have stuff of mine in all of them along with their remnants of stuff they never took. Time to spread the wealth at the mission for me, too.
it’s cathartic to get rid of stuff and others can use the stuff too. we routinely purge our closets of stuff, there are ALWAYS things to be gotten rid of.
True, true.
When I was in Brazil, I was told that 1/3 of Portuguese is just like Spanish, 1/3 is different, and 1/3 looks and sounds like Spanish but means something different (and is thus confusing to Spanish-speakers).
I guess that “frango” falls into the “different” category.
I saw that, it’s fascinating!
I have “gotten by” speaking Spanish to Brazilians in the past, it’s close enough to make it doable.
For those of you scoring at home, today was the first day with frosted car windows. 29 degrees this morning.
eeks. it was 37 here this AM and I thought that was bad!
Mine have been frosted many times this year already.
Marshall Field’s turned out to be frangible as they are gone from the scene forever. However, Frango mints continue on by another owner.
yes, I see Macy’s has them, but it is just not the same as Marshall Field’s! I hate that everything is now macy’s and the regional stores are all gone.
we were at the Caps game Sat PM for Ovie to tie Sergei Fedorov’s record for most goals scored by a Russian player. We THOUGHT we were there for him to BREAK the record also, but due to a coach’s challenge of the goal, it was called off. Caps miraculously went on to win in a shootout. The coach’s challenge is a BS rule and should be done away with. Fortuitously, xshub is going to be in Detroit on biz tomorrow and so bought a ticket to the game so hopefully will be there to see the record broken on Fedorov NIGHT at the joe.
Godd grief. My grandson is an engineering student at Kansas State U and a former pro baseball pitching hopeful who is currently sidelined because of an arm injury. He was a big hit in his circle of friends this year going as the black KC pitching sensation, complete with fake dredlocks.
My whole being paled when I heard this news from his parents. He would have been expelled from other universities, but Kansas loves its World Series champions and everyone on this team. They took it as a tribute and an honor to one of their favorite baseball stars, as it was meant. I’ve got to have a serious discussion with that boy, however, the next time I see him! LOL.
Even serious engineers are not immune from the PC climate. One of my other sons (not this boy’s father) had to undergo weeks of indoctrination (with everyone else) at a nuclear facility where he works over PC language, behavior, etc. Being a devout Christian, he just takes it and keeps his mouth shut. It doesn’t change his core beliefs at all.
