My two cents viewing it from an election viewpoint:
Positive. It showed he has a sense of humor, especially about himself. The Oval Office skit was pure gold, showing the future in which the wall is built, China failing, and more. Showed the democrats as nuts, and Hillary as a fake.
As entertainment, the show sucks, which it almost always has. The humor is flat, the skits too long, and there's no funny personalities to carry the load (Ackroyd, Murray, Murphy, etc...)

I couldn’t agree more with your assessment.
I might add that watching that poor excuse for a comedy/entertainment show thoroughly reinforced my decision of roughly 20 years ago to NOT watch SNL - because it totally lacks the writing and the great personalities of the past. The original crew was still the best - by far. Only the crew with Eddie Murphy came close, and not too close at that.
Oh, and WTF is up with that stupid beotch with the terrible voice who mumbles everything and covers up 3/4 of her face with that hair/toupe/tie-died raccoon?

Trump did better than I expected. CNN is frantic to point out every possible way to state how the show will hurt Trump and is right now focusing on the demonstrators. I didn't hear them they say how many were demonstrating.
I didn't see Hillary on the show, so I cannot compare them.

I also liked the skit about Hillary.
