It wasn’t a Trident missile but maybe it was a missile interceptor ?
A speeding bullet designed to intercept a speeding bullet before it reaches target

From what I have read it was a sub-launched Trident missile test with no missile interceptors. The interceptors would have been out in the middle of the Pacific for that kind of test.
