Do not be so quick to reject Patton assassination claims. In the early 1980s, I knew a WW II vet who was fluent in German and who, during the war, was in an intelligence collection and analysis unit in Europe.

One day, my friend mentioned that he was convinced that Patton had been killed because he had seen an intelligence report to that effect, with the motive being that Patton was killed because he was intent on vigorous investigation of the Reichsbank gold theft. Since this put the US Army officer culprits in danger, an assassin was brought in to kill Patton.
