Adding on to the fact boomers as parents started giving out participation trophies, made everyone feel 'special' and were concerned more about 'Self esteem' than results, it shouldn't be a surprise.

Boomers would be those kids' grandparents, not parents.

A boomer born in 1950, would probably have their first child between 1978 and 1982. That first child would enter school in the mid 80s.

Child 2,3,4 would enter school in the late 80s and early 90s, the height of the “self esteem in school and lets give participation trophies” movement.
