Composting Toilets

Posted on 11/04/2015 3:20:20 PM PST by rey

Does anyone know anything about composting toilets? I work for someone who wants to install one of these. How many people can they handle? How do they work? What is clean up like if there is no running water through them? Are they microbial? If so, how difficult is it to keep the microbes functioning? Is there anything else I should know?

Is there a plumbing ping? Do Freepers know their s***?

Thanks

Microphor toilets were standard equipment for railroad applications as well.

My dad said when he left Oklahoma they used to eat in the house and crap outside. Came to California where you crap in the house and eat outside.

composting toilets are simple. Dig a three deep foot hole by about a 18 inches wide and put an small house over it. have a bucket of lime and sprinkle some in the hole after. When it fills remove the house dig another hole and start over.

I don't know about composting toilets, but I do know SMU has waterless urinals, which are pretty nifty. There's a special filter you have to replace every so often, but they don't use water at all.
