This one really floored me because Alanis Morrisette was 100% a protegee of none other than Madonna, who put every bit of her considerable power behind Morrisette at the label, in recording, with A&R, in promotions and even at the station level. Nobody - NOBODY has enjoyed as much "help from women" as Alanis. Without Madonna she would be busking for Poutine money in Toronto.

She was signed to Madonna's Maverick record label and received a then-unprecedented $1 for every copy of Jagged Little Pill that was sold, an album that would go on to sell 33 million copies.
Almost overnight, Alanis Morissette was a multi-millionaire. Madonna allowed her to become rich beyond her wildest dreams.

She’s a horrible singer. That she has such a high level of success is amazing. I don’t know how much help she had, but her talent sure didn’t get her there.

Its fine if she wants to help others but what's with complaining nobody gave her a helping hand???I have no idea. And it's not like Taylor Swift needs a boost either.
There's certainly a few other female artists that could benefit from Alanis Morrisette showing up at one of their shows though.

Her real breakthrough with You Oughta Know was because it was “menacing female aggression” about on a par with Fatal Attraction. However, for those that don’t know, she first recorded a really “stalker” version of You Oughta Know that while not as violent, makes up for it in creepy.
