Over the last few months, Iâve been working with the rest of the Lucky Gunner team on another one of our epic experiments, which weâre proud to finally unveil: ballistics gelatin testing for over 100 self-defense handgun ammunition loads. 117 to be precise, and thatâs just round one. This testing will be ongoing, and weâll keep adding to the results as we have the chance to test more loads. If you came here just to see the data from our tests, you can use the handy menu above to skip right to the results section. If this whole ballistics testing thing is new to you, or you want to know more about our process, then you might want to keep reading. If youâre more of a âbottom lineâ kind of person, you can skip over both the setup and the test results and check out the conclusions section. However you use this information, we hope you find it helpful when picking out your next self-defense load.

Useful information. I want my wife’s Sig p238 (380) using the best ammo.
OTOH, doesn’t matter what you are shooting if you don’t hit the target in the right place. The FBI is going back to 9mm because they find the improved accuracy with a lower recoil round is more effective.
With newer and better self defense ammo, the 9mm looks like a better round than in the past. The 380 also seems better, but not much expansion.
Looking for info on .38 or .357 ?
more interested in consistent And economic shooting .
You’re choice of Hornday,
is that for .38/.357 as well?
Looks like a good choice. Not so much expansion to stop penetration. Good sectional density left. That is probably the one I would choose too if I still had a 380.
5 shots, SA.
chuckhawks.com
has good info on all calibers,
pistol and rifle.
Those were always too small for me to handle comfortably. However, they ARE really good guns and a LOT of law enforcement use them for backups.
Ni, I use them in my 9mm
