I have all the respect in the world for Ben Carson. For only the second time in American politics, we would have a president who made his name outside of politics prior to his election if he won. (The first, for trivia fans, is Herbert Hoover as an engineer). He is humble, virtuous, honest, reliable, committed. But there is no way on Earth that he could defeat Hillary Clinton or even stand up to her in a debate.
Hillary would have him for lunch.
Carson combines the limited knowledge of government and budgeting of Sarah Palin with the soft voice of John McCain. Just as Obama ran all over McCain in the debates, so would Hillary run over Carson. But a lot worse.
On top of that, the Hillary Clinton who arrogates to herself the credit for OKing the raid that killed bin Laden is going to make mincemeat of Carson for his statement that he would not have sent troops to Afghanistan to pursue the Taliban after 9-11. Instead, Carson said in the first debate, he would have sought to end our dependence on foreign oil.
Ending our dependence on foreign oil is key and we are just a few years away from achieving total energy independence (except for having to continue to rely on imports from Canada and Mexico). But it will have taken twenty years. It was no substitute for an invasion that knocked al Qaeda back on its heels, forced it into the mountains, and toppled the Taliban government in Afghanistan. Dont confuse the current muddled situation in Afghanistan for the clear cut victory we scored in 2002. Right after 9/11, everybody thought that we would be hit again, probably within a few weeks. It didnt happen because Bush wasnt Carson and sent in troops (while concluding a savvy coalition with the Northern Alliance in Afghanistan).
Carsons reticence to use troops even after 9-11, makes one wonder when he would send in troops. Is he another Rand Paul who wont act to protect us because he fears foreign involvement? By all accounts, we should be frightened by Carsons rise in the polls.
While many dont like Donald Trump, nobody doubts that he would be a strong opponent to Hillary in a campaign and in debates or that he would be a strong leader as president. He brings in new voters that otherwise wouldnt have voted, just as Perot did.
But dont go for Carson!
Yup. We need Trump, a bare knuckled street fighter to kick the crap out of the dems for four years, and then a conservative Cruz for eight years.
She would steamroll him because she fights dirty.
Trump is friends with Hillary Clinton. He said he wouldn’t fight with her.
As much there is to dislike about Dick Morris, he could be right on this with regard to Carson vs Klintoon. She’s a mean lying bitch with no mercy.
Gentle Ben could be 100% right on any point and hitlery would have him looking for a place to hide on the debate stage. His only chance would be to whip out a dagger and a hammer, like what he claimed as a kid. If he did that, I’d be first in line to go on his bailbond.
Carson is going to be a strong asset for either a Trump or Cruz Administration.
I don’t like Morris, but I agree with him about Carson. He’s weak and is unable to hold an opinion for longer than the next poll.
What planet were you on in 2008?
I don’t know....I think Hillary would get 90% of the Democrats and 0% of the Pubbies.......maybe 15% of the independents...whoever’s left goes to Carson
A broken clock is right once a day but Morris is right here. Yes God can do anything. But Morris better be sure he’s being driven by God and not by personal ambition. He’s a minnow among sharks otherwise.
Trump has lit a fire and he will keep rolling to the win. Carson and Cruz while good men, do not inspire people in the same way Trump does. He is a real leader and a man who is known to get things done!
Honestly, who comes out and says, ‘by the way, I tried to kill some people with knives and hammers when I was 14?’ who says that???
I think he’s correct. What ever Hitlery did or said about Carson would be parroted and amplified by the MSM to no end. I just do not see someone so well mannered like this (Carson) being able to match all of that. He’d just fall right in line with Myth and McShame and be walked all over.
It will take an enormous ego and a very large mouth to shut them (MSM & Dems) down, and there’s only one person qualified to do it. It ain’t Carson.
Trump will take half of Hillary’s voters. Carson and Cruz will not get any democrat crossovers, ever. We will need those dem voters to defeat the new latino citizens that are feverishly being naturalized as we speak in preparation for Nov 2016.
Zachary Taylor had held no elective office before being elected President. Chester Alan Arthur became President because he was Vice President when Garfield died in office—the Vice Presidency was his first elective office. William Howard Taft held no elective office before winning the Presidential election of 1908.
So does Trump really think he can be elected President, or is his mission to create chaos in Republican ranks so that she can win the election?
>> there were a few others besides President Hoover <<
I think Hoover was a disaster as POTUS. Moreover, long before being elevated to the White House, he virtually invented “foreign aid” programs, and he was responsible for creating the Federal Communications Commision. I’d say he was not exactly a paragon of Presidential virtue.
Two other POTI who made their primary reputations as “non-politicians” were William Henry Harrison and Zachary Taylor, both military heroes. But both also died in office before any reasonable assessments were possible.
Then there was Woodrow Wilson, whose main claim to fame before he became CINC was as President of Princeton University. I gotta think he was the worst POTUS of the 20th century, having done more lasting harm to the USA (and maybe the whole world) than even J. E. Carter.
>> William Howard Taft held no elective office before winning the Presidential election of 1908 <<
True enough. But before that, he had been Solicitor General of the US, a federal appeals court judge, Governor General of the Philippines, Secretary of War and Acting Secretary of State. So he wasn’t exactly a novice in governmental and political affairs.
“While many dont like Donald Trump, nobody doubts that he would be a strong opponent to Hillary in a campaign and in debates or that he would be a strong leader as president. He brings in new voters that otherwise wouldnt have voted, just as Perot did.”
Occasionally Dick is right. The only GOP candidate who will sit on a debate stage and look Shrillary Clinton in the eye and say “you were the worst Secretary of State in the history of our country” “You are the reason we have a dead ambassador and 3 dead SEAL warriors” is DJ Trump. And if you are not willing to outright challenge her she will win.
There are few people I can think of that couldn’t make Hillary look like dirt, yet that knowledge has no effect on her support from ignorant voters.
I ran across a quote from Calvin Coolidge about Herbert Hoover: "That man has offered me unsolicited advice for the past six years, all of it bad."
In my opinion I think he really wants to be elected.
I know I am p.o.ed about almost all things Washington. However, the folks getting the free stuff and not paying taxes are not; they just want more.
