Speaking as a white man, don’t we have ghastly complexions? Par-baked like those bread rolls you can buy in supermarkets, we look like not quite the finished product. Glancing at the person opposite on the Tube the other day, I thought “if only I could be that colour”. He was in his late thirties, maybe, south Asian, maybe Sri-Lankan; and his skin was that beautiful golden brown that whispers that this is how humans were supposed to look.

I'm not married and, as far as I know, I don't have any children.

However, being a young, blue-eyed, melanin-challenged, Euro-white boy living in Arizona with a severe tanning deficiency, I knew I didn't want my future kids to be Darwinized with skin that sunburns when the moon is full.

Pondering my personal eugenics options and what my choices might mean for my potential children, I've always thought a melanin-rich, tan easily, sorta wholesome girl with a good personality would be the best gift to my future kids.

All good fun to think about, but at this point, I'm just looking for someone without guile or a divorce lawyer on speed dial.

If I can get that right, the rest will be a life-long blessing, tanned or untanned.
