302,885 miles. So a really long way away. Not close at all.
It would be cool if it went between the Earth and the Moon.
I believe we’ve had one pass closer a few years back, inside the orbit of the moon. Don’t recall how big that one was.
Little farther than the moon. Close call for not being noticed and in space distance. If it hit earth it could wipe out a major city easily.
We must also be in grave danger from the moon.
It is very close considering the size of the solar system, galaxy, universe. It is almost as close as our Moon. It is certainly close enough to be labelled a NEO (Near-Earth Object) Anything closer than 4.3 million miles of Earths tracking orbit are considered potential hazards. This is less than 302,000 miles from Earth. Your car can travel 302,000 miles. Just not in space. Of course you will have to change your oil about a thousand times.
Also it could be on a long rbit around the Sun and actually reapproach the Earth on return or in several years or decades and actually be closer. This object was only discovered earlier this month.
In astronomical terms this is a close call. A haircut really.
In in relationship to the size of space, the solar system etc, 300k this is waaay close. Considering a 2,000’ diameter mountain hitting earth at about 78,000 mph would be epic and a mass killer if it hit anywhere even close to a population center.
The moon is 238,855 miles from the earth. So when you are talking celestial issues that is pretty darn close given the size of space which is really really really really big.

Yer s’posta be scared real bad!
