I believe HG Wells wrote about a man transported to a valley where everyone was blind... the people there poked his eyes out so he wouldn’t act so weird.
That’s “The Country of the Blind”, a short story Wells wrote originally in 1904.
Yes, the man, a mountaineer named Nunez, trying to conquer the summit of Parascotopetl, slips and falls and finds himself in the country of the blind et al.
