That brought back memories. When I was in the Air Force in the 50's, I was stationed at Naha AB Okinawa. I worked on the F-86D jet which had an electronic fuel control system (with vacuum tubes). To test the system we had to run the engine. One morning, I was tasked to run up this airplane and there was a delay in getting me a start cart. I was playing around with some of the switches when I noticed this big red button on the left upper console. It said, "Drop Tanks." I thought, "I wonder if this works with the battery switch off." Guess what?
