The odds against winning the Powerball lottery are even greater than that but eventually someone always wins it.

The odds for an individual player of winning are astronomically low. However, the odds of there simply being a winner, any winner, are basically 100% (because the jackpot rolls over until there is one).
Odds of winning the grand prize in the current Powerball format: 1 in 292 million (not nearly as long as the odds of what they claimed to have done.)
