One reason may be that God has lifted his hand of provision and protection on this nation for our blatant disobedience of His Holy will and for our nations leaders pushing Him out of the public square.
Just as ancient Israel, the U.S. has been blessed beyond all of the worlds measure. Just as ancient Israel, this nation was founded by divine providence of the Almighty God to spread his Holy covenant and to provide a path to freedom, liberty. All God asked...to recognize Him as the creator and to come into communion with Him.
Just as ancient Israel, we have and are now rebelling against Him. Just as ancient Israel, God stepped back and allowed evil to reign so that the Israelites would understand their rebellion and turn back toward God, seek His forgiveness and restore their nation back into communion with Him.
Am I 100% correct? I dunno for sure, but I can say this, abortion, transgenderism, LGBT, gay marriage, removing the Ten Commandments and all mention of God in our society is abhorrent to God. Just as Jesus wept over the nation of Israel and over their disobedience to God, I believe God wants us to realize we are on the wrong path.
