I’ve got an interesting book EROS IN POMPEII which shows the art from THE FORBIDDEN ROOMS. Very interesting life they had. Makes “Fellini Satyricon” more understandable.

I bought the book because it had a complete description of what happened written at the time by Pliny the Younger who witnessed the disaster and the loss his dad Pliny the Elder.

Pliny the Elder was the uncle of Pliny the Younger, not his father.

Pliny the Younger wrote a letter to Tacitus describing how his uncle died--we have that letter (readily available in English translation such as the Penguin translation of Pliny's letters...but without the illustrations of Eros in Pompeii) but the part of Tacitus' Histories based on that has not been preserved.
