Dashcam footage captured the horrifying moment two police officers drew their guns on a husband and wife after pulling them over while they were rushing to the hospital to give birth.
James Reiner was driving his wife Dana to the hospital after her water broke in January 2012 in Hebron, Indiana when they passed a police car that suddenly turned on its lights and pulled them over, despite the fact that they were not speeding.
That is when James got out to tell Sgt. Anthony Dandurand that his wife was pregnant and they needed to get to the hospital. He responded by cuffing the man on the ground while another officer, Travis Thomas, held a gun on James.
Dana then tried to show the men that her waters had indeed broken - and they pointed a gun directly at her belly and yelled at her to 'get back in the fu**ing car.'
(snip)
Dana was eventually picked up at the scene by an ambulance and taken to the hospital where she gave birth just minutes later according to an interview she did with The Times of Northwest Indiana.

A U.S. District magistrate agreed with Dana in July 2014, when he ruled that the officers had absolutely no right to detain the couple after learning Dana was in pregnant, let alone take James to jail.

And the men not only violated the constitutional rights of the Reiners as a judge later declared, but they also can be heard on the dashcam video six minutes into the arrest saying they will delete the video.

That is what they are supposed to do. That is what the policemen would have done when I was younger.
“stop, youre making me laugh LOL”
Stupid little kids usually just giggle at life and think things are a joke. Cops and little kids do that.

LOL, that was a ‘welcome to 2nd grade’ type post...very clever.
So who has the settlement pool?
I’m guessing $20M.
Prayers for this family to heal and grow in love and joy. Prayers, also, for the crazy cops who spoiled a joyful event forever.
What would the pool be if there had been complications in the birth and the baby died due to the delay in reaching the hospital?Or loss the mother?
These cops are so lucky.
“My wife is having a baby”
“We don’t give a s**t get down”
LOL!
In that event I'd have to revise my guess to $1 or 2M tops. Unfortunately dead kids don't typically equate to high damage awards. Since the kid survived, there's three plaintiffs. Cha-Ching!
You got it. They’re not doing themselves any favors. As of now, 99+ percent of America is not a combat war zone nor are Americans the enemy. For their sake they better pray it remains that way.
1% of cops have the piles the rest are perfect assholes.
I'm sure you meant the is wrong with these cops.
These are citizens, with God given rights. Not subjects required to bootlick the local shire reeve for not shooting them that day.
That was bad and an example of very poor, heartless judgement.
envy much?
Here's an interesting slap down of the officers from the opinion:
Even if the unconstitutionality of the alleged conduct was not clearly established through case law, the violation was so obvious a reasonable state actor would know that his actions violated the Constitution. Siebert, 256 F.3d at 654. The likely reason why there are so few analogous cases (Williams is the only factually similar case this Court has found), is that police officers know better than to detain, arrest, and jail someone in these sorts of circumstances.
In other words, cases with these particular circumstances don't come up often because most cops are smart enough to know that you don't detain a woman in labor.
