Homophobic slurs were reportedly used during a student rap battle Friday night at the University of Oklahoma.
An OU student organization, Queer Inclusion on Campus, posted about the incidents on social media, saying they would address the situation.
We are dismayed at the words OU students chose to utilize at the expense of students who identify as LGBTQ, the organization said. We have been told that these unacceptable actions were also accompanied by sexist and body shaming rhetoric, which is also inappropriate.
QuIC spokesperson Alex Ruggiers said he didnt know how to describe his emotions after hearing the slurs were used, according to OU Daily.
Its hard to describe, actually, he said. And, given the culture and the climate on this campus, I think its obvious that this was boiling under the surface, and that all it took was something like this for it to explode.
Ruggiers said the organization heard terms such as queer and faggot used as insults during the event.
OU Daily also reported that one of the contestants apologized for his lyrics afterwards on the Facebook event.
I would like to apologize if I hurt anyone with what I said on stage tonight, Shane Appell said. The words I chose to hastily rhyme do not necessarily reflect my opinions of any of the other contestants or groups of people.
Ruggiers said QuIC is now to discuss the next step with OUs Union Programming Board, which also apologized for the incidents.
Though the nature of the event calls for the spontaneous creation of unscripted lyrics, we should have created more defined guidelines for contestants, UPB said. We do not condone or encourage the marginalization of any human being. Any contestant using language that demeaned members of the LGBTQ community will be disqualified.
bulack homosexual types
How about “misopaederastist”? Long and clumsy word, I know, but a LOT about homosexuality is clumsy.
Greek roots - “Miso”, meaning hating, “Paederast” for those who engage in unnatural and/or same-sex acts (usually between adult and juvenile males). Ancient Greeks seemed to acknowledge the existence of adult male/male relationships, or female/female relationships, but there was no specific term attached to either at the time. Female/female relationships were associated with the island of Lesbos, but the women themselves were not given that term until much later.
Oh, I haz a sad!
Awww, they got their little panties in a wad. Too bad, LGBTQ-EIEIO
This type of unseriousness and stupidity is not sustainable.
“Panties in a wad, Pronto!!”
That’s “sticky panties in a wad.”
There, fixed it.
What a bunch of queers and faggots.
Oh my goodness. You mean free speech is still allowed in Oklahoma? Well this must stop. /s
Exactly, and this PC crap is tiresome. It’s okay for them to call straights, breeders, or other derogatory names - but, by golly, don’t offend their perversion.
If OU was teaching the Constitution as constitutional lawmakers had intended for it to be understood as it should be doing, then instead of homophobic slurs, students could be pointing out how activist justices wrongly ignored the Constitution concerning gay marriage.”
More specifically, not only have the states never amended the Constitution to expressly protect LGBT rights like gay marriage, but activist justices breached the Founding States’ division of federal and state government powers, stealing 10th Amendment-protected state powers to prohibit constitutionally unprotected gay marriage.
These corrupt justices then used stolen 10th Amendment-protected powers to wrongly legislating the so-called right to gay marriage from the bench (just like activist justices legislated the so-called right to have an abortion from the bench).
Students could also be pointing out that activist justices know that the corrupt, post-17th Amendment ratification Senate isnt going to do its job to protect the States as the Founding States had intended for it to do, in this case by working with the House to impeach and remove such justices from the bench for ignoring 10th Amendment-protected state powers.
The ill-conceived 17th Amendment needs to disappear, and corrupt senators and the activist justices that the Senate confirms to the bench and then refuses to remove along with it.
I should know better than to post before I read the other posts. You are exactly right. They exercised their First Amendment rights and the left can’t take it. Everyone is suppose to agree with them or be silenced.
> LGBTQ - Grievances are their very reason for existence.
Truth. Protected by the administration and proud of being sexual deviants who are working their way towards having their way with your childen
I’ve been noticing that when that song is played on the radio now, often the word “faggot” is muted.
maybe they were talking about odd bundles of sticks
I always thought homos vs islam would be an epic fight, but homos vs rappers would be even mo’ betta’.
Hey homos, just remember that rappers assasinated fellow rappers tupac and biggie smaller.
Smalls, not smaller.
Same here; I heard it fairly recently, noticed it I thought plainly, and then the other day I didn’t. That is why I looked it up. I thought I must have mis-heard. The first set of lyrics I found had deleted that part completely.
Yes, I agree, that's a terrible thing. That should be hate speech and anybody slurring against people who slander homos should be prosecuted.
I will enjoy the angst in the pop cult. Both homos and rappers are pillars in the pop cult. I don’t think there is a hegelian dialectic that can synthesize this confict.
