Hopefully Trump couples his anti-NAFTA policy with busting up unions, because if he doesn’t American consumers will get DESTROYED by the cost of locally-produced products.
In other words, it’s easy to scream at China and South Korea for selling us 60 inch plasmas for $400 and support Trump when hits cuts off their exports to us...but then when American factories get to work, those same plasmas will cost around $2,000 unless some SERIOUS REFORMS are made in the areas of labor and regulations. Americans will not be happy when Canadians can still buy a plasma for $400, but we have to pay $2000 because ours are built by UAW types.
It does sound like Trump gets it on the regulation end (which is very good), but I’m really interested in what he thinks of the way organized labor has DESTROYED our manufacturing base. As I pointed out yesterday, the manufacturing base of the US Northeast and Midwest was GONE long before NAFTA existed. The unions, mainly, destroyed it.
There isn't enough organized labor left to affect anything...And what there is left has been severely handicapped with lower wages and benefits...
The unions built the middle class of America...Did that put a lot of American companies out of business...Nope...But it did give those employees cash to spend...That allowed new businesses to start up all over the Country...Did companies move to Southern states to increase their profits??? Yep...Some did...
It's all a matter of balance...
You didn't mention the elimination of the anti-trust laws which allows companies to merge and control any competition which results in maximum profits for those merging companies...
Getting every American blue collar worker on welfare (even while he/she has a job) is not the solution I'm looking for...
