I agree that this is taken out of context. I disagree that it is a good address. It is not the heresy presented. Still, I never like our daily emotions, especially those rooted in our own weakness and sinful doubt, lifted by a comparison like that. Jesus fully understood what He was doing and why. He agonized because what he was called to do was so difficult. But He did it willingly and knew fully the fruit of it. Read John 14 through 17. I am not saying you do not know that. I am saying, his speech was not “pretty good.” It was his usual emotional drivel that is not biblical solid. That is why it is so easily misunderstood.

Its one of his better ones because it is relatively brief and to the point.

Most of them are a lot of blah-blah-blah and my eyes roll up in my head before I get very far.

He is not a good pope; he does not know how to distinguish politics from the gospel.

He sees himself as the head of an institution, which I suppose he is, and talks like it rather than speaking like an evangelist.

Nothing he will ever have to say about Global Warming will be worth ten cents. My message to him would be the same message I'd give to anyone, catholic or non-catholic alike: Preach Christ and let the chips fall. Preach Christ. Whatever the subject matter of the day, immigration, global warming, muslim invasions, whatever it is, preach Christ.

Like I have said, a guy who has walked with God his entire adult life should be more clear on the concept than what he seems to be. He was probably a good neighborhood priest. He would probably be a pleasant guy to chat with over coffee. He should not be pope.

He would not last ten minutes as a street preacher. He just isn't that clear on the concept.
