Reminds me of the old Ford/Chevy arguments.
Now you’ve done it.
I have a 67 Camaro and a 57 Bel Air. Anyone running a non-old school Chevy is lame.
LOL. Here we go.
Well, maybe I’ll be in the minority here— I haven’t read the other comments—
I bought my new desktop with 10 as the OEM OS.
It is GREAT.
I am really looking forward to upgrading the 8.1 and 7 laptops.
And super cool move...making those upgrades free :)
(Which is different from “giving the OS away free...that they are not doing...even the free upgrades have a time limit.)
So, whatever the opposite of “alienated” is, that’s me :)
I'm sure it could. You might have to write it though. Or it could be run in a guest Win box.
I run Exchange on a bunch of them :).
It is ‘Microsoft’s Waterloo’ for me. My household scrapped Windows on account of 10, and we are an all-Ubuntu-Linux joint now, on all but one computer, and that runs XP just to run some old stuff on.
If you have a 'weather station' that will only work with windows software you were ripped off.
I’m sure I could write it. Been there, done that.
No more. And no virtual machines or patching. Needs to work hands off pretty much 24/7/365.
Also run a remote controllable webcam. Apple and Linux have little if anything to offer as easy and universally applicable.
Funny how all the people not using Windows 10 are telling those of us who are how bad it is. Probably the same guys who ask questions around here sometimes about how to get Windows 95 to load a modern webpage.
Point me to one that is under a hundred dollars.
Even so why would I scrap what works just so I could be an Apple or Linux fanboy?
Mine has been reliable for at least 4 years.
Just bought a new HP Notebook laptop, and have no idea what kind of word processor it has...but it does have Windows 10.
Am no computer wizard, by any means. And still have 2006 Dell desk top, with Windows XP, and find that so easy to use.
But, have no idea what program this has, so anyone have any idea about what type of “word” program comes with Windows 10?
I like mine.

I bought a gaming PC (as a substitute for a full size system). It came with Win 8.1, and it claimed upgradeability to Windows 10.
I have to say, both Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 exceeded my expectations. I’d been running Windows 7 on a six-year old laptop. Of course, the hardware made a difference. And, Windows 8.1 had some awkwardness in the interface. But, it was very stable. Windows 10 has eliminated the interface awkwardness of 8.1, and is at least as stable at 8.1 was. Both are rock solid... even better than Windows 7.
Downsides:
1) You need a fair amount of memory to really appreciate the system... I’d say 8 GB minimum. It will run on smaller systems, but then you can’t simultaneously run many other applications.
2) The forced updates, with no choice and no information. To tell the truth, I don’t like it on principle, but haven’t had any problems over the past few months. When I think about it, when I run Debian or Ubuntu on another computer, I pretty much accept all of the upgrades without much question. This isn’t much different in fact, although its different in principle. Here, MSFT is taking responsibility for keeping the great majority of systems out there working.
3) The sneaky gathering of information in default setup mode. Yeah, this sucks on principle, but it is easily defeated if you do a little reading. Don’t use the suggested MSFT account, and shut off the data-gathering options, and you’ll be fine. I bet that many of the people who complain about this are not being all that careful about giving away their personal info to the other online data grabbers, like Google, Facebook, Linked In, etc.
Sounds like you need a low wattage, stand alone machine to do that robot 24/7 work.
Hey anyone....on my Windows 8 laptop will the recovery partition be wiped out if I install Windows 10?
There is a program called Macrium. You can get a free edition here
http://www.macrium.com/reflectfree.aspx
This program allows you to create an image of your entire disk as one huge file. If your disk gets messed up but lets say Windows 10, you can use Macrium to restore the disk image back onto the original disk as if nothing happened. I use it at work all the time...
I just installed Windows 10 on an 11 year old laptop. 2gig memory 1.7gig processor.
Works better than it did on Windows 7 and Vista.
If the built in keyboard still worked, It would still be a great computer.
USB keyboards work ok too.
Clonezilla saved me from the Windows 10 upgrade. I imaged Win7 and then restored it after taking a look at 10. Guess what? Clonezilla is Linux.
Thanks. I can create this image file....store on an external hard drive. Then move file-image to a large? 16gb? Flash drive and restore from the flash drive?
I think the younger driver writers do not know about "contact bounce".
