Why vote for Cruz over Trump? To put it concisely, because he has a long, consistent record of strong conservative leadership.
But not on immigration. He opposed the "pathway to citizenship," but otherwise supported granting legal status to illegal aliens, a position that is meaningless, since once granting legal residence to 40 million people the pathway to citizenship is guaranteed.
He has also not shown leadership with the TPP, even opposing Sessions and going along with the Establishment's talking points.
And my point was that if you are viewing immigration as the end-all, be-all issue, the sad fact is that NO candidate has a consistently strong enough position on that issue. Not even Trump.
Trump is every day being called a racist, losing business, getting personally attacked because he uses the D-word-- deportation-- and you want me to ignore all of that to vote for your candidate who is going to screw up the country?
No thank you. I'm sticking with Trump. You can go vote for your "conservative leader" who is going to increase the Democratic voter electorate by another 10 or even 15 or 20 percent.
