GOP presidential hopeful Donald Trump is a lifetime member of the NRA and a concealed carry permit holder who believes the advantages an armed citizenry provides to America are so evident as to be beyond debate.
In a recent interview with Ammoland, Trump said:
I am a Life Member of the NRA and am proud of their service in protecting our right to keep and bear arms. The NRAs efforts to stop dangerous, gun-banning legislation and regulation is invaluable. The media focus on those efforts overshadows the great work the NRA does on behalf of safety and conservation.
He went on to talk about this permit to carry in New York and said, I know firsthand the challenges law-abiding citizens have in exercising their Second Amendment rights.
Trump cited figures showing how concealed carry impacts crime and focused on howright to carry statesenjoy a lower violent crime and a lower murder rate than other parts of the country...
Ammoland asked Trump about a statement he made 15 years ago regarding assault weapons, trying to ascertain where Trump stands on the ongoing opposition to AR-15s from people like Senator Dianna Feinstein (D-CA). Trump responded by saying he believes the lefts targeted assault on AR-15s is really just an extension of the lefts usual habit of going after whatever it is that Americans love at a given moment.
Because of this, he said they focus on things that are non-essentiallike grips, magazines, etc.
Here are Trumps exact words:
You mention that the media describes the AR-15 as an assault rifle, which is one example of the many distortions they use to sell their agenda. However, the AR-15 does not fall under this category. Gun-banners are unfortunately preoccupied with the AR-15, magazine capacity, grips, and other aesthetics, precisely because of its popularity.

No one is addressing the special class aspect in that Trump has a NYC "permit to carry" while the average law-abiding New Yorker cannot get one. NYC's carry-for-the-rich-and-connected policy needs to be challenged.
Reply
New Jersey is just as bad. To obtain a carry permit you must "prove a need". Unless you are connected, the proof is never enough.
That should be moot anyway, as any permit requirement is a clear infringement. What is so hard to understand about "shall not be infringed"?

Why am I blocked by Breitbart? I followd the "learn more" but found no way to ask the moderators there.
Don’t know anything about that but I do know that there is a concealed carry reciprocity bill ready for his presidential signature so commoners like you and I will be able to carry in New York, New Jersey, Maryland, etc. You know they’ll fight it though of course.
U.S. Navy as well, at least up 'til half-a-hundred years ago, when I served.
Mr. Broken Record here, for the umpteenth time. Any permit requirement is a clear infringement.
You a Trumpswab now, mate?
Gettin’ close; Cruz doesn’t seem to be getting traction.
Pretty sure The Dread Pirate Trump knows that.
His Uniparty enemies are all talking about MORE infringements, not less.
Now, the Uniparty Republicans will have to drop the banning talk, while the Uniparty Democrats and the Media (but I repeat myself) will curl in the corner in the foetal position, moaning, wailing, and occasionally fulminating about The Evil Trump and his benighted followers.
“His position paper on the 2nd Amendment reads like a bunch of Freepers wrote it. Whats not to like.”
Apparently some people here were having problems because Trump didn’t call for unlicensed open and concealed carry (just 50 state reciprocity)...so I guess that made Trump a RINO. Trump also didn’t call for giving felons the right to own guns after doing time. I’ll leave it to Rand to make sure that Voter ID is eliminated, felons get the right to vote, and felons get the right to own guns - because I don’t support any of them.
...and, of course, I would NEVER want to assume that the people that have problems with Trump on the Second Amendment are supporting (or being paid by) other candidates. That just wouldn’t be right. So I won’t.
“Today, because of all the metal detectors, I would be almost impossible to go any where.”
...and not just the metal detectors that you see. Also IR detectors and other ways to see through clothing that you don’t even know is happening. Crime didn’t shoot down as far in NYC by just better policing - there was some serious hardware used also.
So you’re right, probably not a good idea to carry without a permit there - at least when adults (Rudy/Bloomberg) ran the city.
Obtaining a concealed carry permit in NYC and the adjoining counties, on the other hand, is nearly impossible unless you can show a specific threat.I am still amazed he has a concealed carry permit in NY.
I think this gets filed under, Oh, come on now!Trump has made it perfectly clear that he is accustomed to getting regulatory approval the old-fashioned way - he buys it.
You guys haven’t been paying attention. I knew Trump had a permit long ago, and was a lifetime NRA member. I think he said it on a phone call to Fox News morning show a while back, if I remember correctly. Or could have been one of his early interviews just after announcing, he was asked about 2nd amendment. I think it was Hannity who interviewed everyone soon as they announced, so it was either his interview or the morning news show.
Anyway, glad to see he’s “sticking to his guns” (pun intended) and in favor of 2nd amendment rights for all of us.
Can you hear the liberals’ screaming about this one?
So far I’m not totally decided, I’m waiting a while before I commit, but I’m certainly leaning heavily toward a Trump vote. Now if he’ll just do the smart thing and bring on Cruz as VP...it’s a done deal.
Quite an assumption you are making in this particular instance,c-I-c.
He made have had a specific threat due to his wealth or high profile.
Since neither you nor I know the actual reasons, I'll file this under "TDS".
Agreed.
That is force multiplication for security against terrorists.
Yes, NYC is almost impossible, and I thought with the new SAFE laws, it was becoming more difficult in the upstate counties as well.
I am glad Trump has been using the example of the newly converted wife in one of the counties around the Dannemora Prison after the recent escape by two murderers in his pro-gun speech.
That’s a nice poke in the eye to the moron Andrew Cuomo.
You are correct.
It is just that any improvement in the present situation is such a breath of fresh air—it is the conditioning that we have lived with for so long.
Nicely done, there, BobL. ;)
Look, as a life NRA member he gets credit for not opposing others' RKBA. So that isnt a problem. And altho my initial response to Trumps entry was dismay, I have concluded that nominating Cruz would be like filling an inside straight. Way things are, were better off with Trump than without him.But Trump brags about being able to get regulatory approval (which you and I doubt should even be necessary) because he contributes to politicians. He uses that to critique politicians. So Im not clear why my point isnt self-evident.
Because you made an assumption of facts not in evidence.
You assume he got a rare concealed carry permit in NYC because he bought it.
Of that you have no proof, only an insinuation borne of your TDS.
Where did he say this?
