The Chinese consider girls watering someone else’s garden, belonging to that family. China’s one child policy compounded matters, as many people made sure their ONLY child was a son. Where he’d find a wife was irrelevant.
India shares part of that view, as well as a traditional imbalance of girls (vegetarian does this) that made less valuable than boys.
Good at math; animal husbandry, not so much.
