SAN ANTONIO (WTVM) The referee who was violently targeted by two Texas high school football players says he wants to press charges, according to media reports.
The referee, identified as Robert Watts, told the Austin [TX] American-Statesman that he wants to press charges on the two John Jay San Antonio football players who went after him, allegedly for a bad call play earlier in the game. The newspaper also names the two players - sophomore linebacker Victor Rojas and senior defensive back Michael Moreno.

I don’t blame the Ref. He could have been really seriously injured.
He could have gotten dead,
Snapped spine?
Broken neck?
Yep. Dead or paralyzed.
The coaching staff needs to be let go, and they need to cancel the season.
Agree 100%.
This thug mentality should not be rewarded, at ANY level, in public schools.
Take those kids to the slammer.
Might also consider their parents too so the lesson sticks.
Ever been to a hockey game? Sometimes we go to watch Texas high school football and a hockey game breaks out. It gets violent out there on the field. Sometimes even the band members join in the chaos or play a fight song during the melee. Never hear band members being called thugs, do we! If you want safety, stay in the stands. Again, football is a violent game.
It could have been worse but the ref will survive to referee again. Of course he may be looking over his shoulder for the next few months but he’ll live over it.
BTW, the young thugs don’t play football since most don’t attend high school on a regular basis. Between jail, peddling dope, shoplifting, burglarizing, carjacking, fencing guns, and reporting to their probation officer, they just don’t have the time and incentive for football.
Give these kids, a sophomore and a senior, some slack. They did something stupid and will learn (or not) from it depending on how it is handled by the adults. Both are in school and participating in the sports program which is good. If any of the adults caused or condoned this situation, that is a different matter to be resolved at a higher level.
Let us hope this situation gets resolved without civil or criminal litigation among the parties. Otherwise, we are going to see players and coaches lawyered-up before participating in sports program at the high school level.
As for racial slurs or other derogatory remarks, get a life.
Seriously? Did you watch the video?

This is about the dumbest post I've ever read on FR.
Yes they did the deed. But kids make stupid decisions and do stupid things. It’s part of the learning process for some. As many dads will affirm, no two kids are alike. Some will make stupid mistakes and others will never make one (until they are adults).
Now the kids need to pay the piper. How severely depends on the circumstances and to what degree the adults are involved is in this situation.
If it was solely their idea, then they need appropriate punishment and rehabilitation. If it was some adult’s idea, then the adults behind this need to be punished but to a more severe degree than the kids.
But if the kids aren’t already thugs, I wouldn’t want to see them develop into future thugs. They need appropriate punishment, fairly applied, for their degree of involvement.
Thanks, but it's not the dumbest I've ever written.
It really is up to the victim but if the players are not willing to admit guilt and try to blame it on a claimed racial slur, they should go down for the crime.
Well, you’ve got a sense of humor. Always a positive.
it's worldviews like yours that makes people vomit in their mouths. Are you even American? You are part of the problem. Why the foaming defense of mexicriminals?
No doubt they did it. Regardless, they will go down for that.
Why is the question. Why would they risk it. It was either a really stupid decision on their part or they were told to do it by someone. The latter seems more likely to me.
As for racial slurs, I don’t think that was the real reason but a weak attempt to justify their actions while protecting someone else.
You give Texas a bad name.
It is not unusual for there to be 20-30 sheriff’s deputies at a big high school football game. There are usually two deputies or cops at volleyball matches.
It's a "Texas view", not a world view. It's a conservative view I might add and contrary to what you might believe Texas is still a red state despite the illegals and the liberals. That view is what is attracting a lot of people and businesses to Texas.
Are you even American?
Yep, native Texan. Last time I checked we were still one of the 57 states in Obamaland so that makes me an American. On top of that I'm Irish/Italian if that matters.
You are part of the problem. Why the foaming defense of ?
Me, a problem, no way. But you, you got a problem with Latin and Spanish surnames and Mexicans in particular whether they are legal or not. I'm not defending criminals of any kind or criminal behavior. I'm only defending kids who make stupid mistakes that could permanently affect their lives. The fact they have Spanish surnames does not automatically mean they are "mexicriminals". And I hope you never meet a real one.
BTW, a little bicarbonate of soda will remove that vomit problem from the mouth and a CCW will resolve the criminal issue.
Mistake? Mistake? A mistake is 2+2=5. This was crime, period. Don’t tell me these thugs had no idea what they were doing was wrong.
So what have you done for Texas lately?
Refrained from making retarded posts on FR for one thing.
The only break these thugs deserve is their asses in prison.
