Losing a longtime buddy who’s been with you for 15 years is a big loss. I think everyone in your church would’ve understood if he had taken the day off today.
He’s the only one we have. There was a lot of sympathy, though ... and if he hadn’t come to church, he would have been alone except for his cat.
