I’m sorry, my lifestyle is such that I prefer other breeds.
I strongly believe that no breed is for everyone. Man developed different breeds for different purposes. I choose to live with the breed or breeds that suit me.
I have nothing against people who have the intelligence and dedication to own your breed of choice, but they MUST be owned responsibly, which takes more than the average pet owner’s capability.
I feel the same way about German Shepherds. I know they are great dogs, but I had one try and attack me in 2nd grade, and the only thing that saved me was climbing up a baseball backstop and waiting until an adult came and chased the dog off. It bit me and ripped my jeans trying to get after me. I’ve never trusted the breed since.
I agree with all you stated.
I would only add that the principles of Responsible Dog Ownership are the same for all dogs,
and unfortunately too many ‘average’ owners are irresponsible regardless of the breed they own.
While the principles are the same, the application of them must be tailored to the specific type/breed or individual dog.
The principles as I see them are:
Maintain, Contain(aka Control) and Socialize.
Applying these principles will keep your dog (and you) out trouble regardless of type/breed.
How the application of the principles need to be tailored can be illustrated by an example...
One method of Control is fencing.
Fencing that may be appropriate for one dog, say a smaller dog,
will not be adequate for a larger dog, it will need to be higher.
