Oscar-winning actress Julianne Moore is campaigning that her high school change its name away from a Confederate general.
JEB Stuart High School in Fairfax, Virginia, was founded in 1959 and allegedly named in honor of the Civil War commander in apparent protest at the Supreme Court's decision to integrate schools.
Moore and her high school friend-turned-producer Bruce Cohen are demanding that the school rename itself, and started a Change.org petition that had already amassed more than 28,000 signatures as of Monday night.
The school formerly included the Confederate flag on its basketball court and in its school symbol. Moore said that students should not have to be embarrassed about a name with ties to slavery.

Stop her in her tracks. Recommend the name be changed to JEB Bush High School. She will probably die of a stroke.
Let’s rename DC “MarianBerryburg instead of Washington!
Her looks are stunning, especially for someone her age. Her mind and views, not so impressive.
I respect the dead. BUT
I would have no problem defecating on her final resting spot.
And I also look better than I do because I am photoshopped, and I have my arms folded to enhance my cleavage.
What do you have against motel clerks and fast food workers? Are we beneath you? Im surprised to see such a condescending attitude on this site toward people who work.
The town/county named after one of the original Lord’s Proprietors of the Colonies-— has become a backwater of condominiums, apt. slums and Dulles employee fallout, not to mention fed employees of every description (key word— career fedgov UNIONized employees with liberal self serving politics).
This crap has to stop. The petition needs to have the addresses of record of the signees for one thing. For the other the school is named for a beloved historical person and family of Virginia, who still LIVE there. It is an insult, brought about by history rewriters. Like changing our money— judging the past from contemporary points of view.
And forgetting, of course that J.E.B. Stuart fought in the the Kansas theatre of “Bleeding Kansas” against the violence wrought by abolitionist loonies of the time, and John Brown who was a terrorist.
Actors say other’s written lines. Because they do they somehow think this imparts intelligence. It doesn’t. Just celebrity.
Julianna Moore’s ancestors supported the Confederacy. If she really wants to atone (and feel better about herself) she can get out her checkbook.
Agree he was great. Second, however to Nathan Bedford Forrest. Both are still studied at West Point, though we have not had cavalry units except ceremonial for some time.
This ping list is for the other articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)
The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.
“Oscar-winning actress “
As though that is some kind of liberal title of nobility, a royalty. The Oscars were started to get people interested in Hollywierd movies. It isn’t exactly an institution of excellence.
That is, the Left dances to a communist tune for a STATE run society of only the ‘privileged’ self righteous. Nice teats and a plastic surgery nose and fine skin with retouch photo, do not an intellect make.
I wouldn’t put it that way exactly since she was responding to other nitwits, but she sure gave it a huge push.
:)
In the movies, maybe.
How much of that was actually true?
Stuart knew about Brown from Kansas and apparently had even met him there, but his fighting in Kansas seems to have been against the Cheyenne Indians.
Stuart did join with Lee to crush Brown's Harper's Ferry raid back east.
