According to a program I watched last Saturday on the American History Channel, many German troops were given a drug similar to crystal meth, which increased their ferocity, desensitized them to human suffering, increased their aggression and made them psychotic.

Haven’t seen that. I do know that amphetamines were widely used in WWII though. And I’ve seen that Hitler used meth.
Amusingly, I do hear of modern meth cooking referring to a “Nazi method” whereby supposedly Nazi soldiers could cook up meth in their cooking equipment.

That doesn’t pass the straight face test to me. If Germans are anything, its control freaks. Hard to imagine them making a soldier brew up his own meth from precursors in the field. That would be like sending powder, brass and bullets and having them reload their own ammunition.
If Nazis soldiers got meth, you can be sure it was made in a lab, to strict standards, and shipped in a labelled package, with brief instructions for its use.

That’s just my take on that.

I don’t think they needed drugs, they had Hitler & Goebbels...
