Have not heard hide nor hare from him in a long time.
I remember Bob Dornan and Duncan Hunter as both being fervently anti-illegal immigration.
Did you check the poster’s sign up date? Last week.
Me too.
In fact, he was so strong on border security and illegal immigration he endorsed Minuteman Project founder Jim Gilchrist when he ran in a special election for Congress. And Gilchrist wasn’t even running as a Republican.
Good catch. I didn’t notice that when I responded to him.
Thanks, Explains a lot.
Loretta Sanchez Brixey lost her first race, for city council. When she ran vs. Dornan, she used her maiden name, in the heavily Latino district. She claims that no one knew who she was as “Brixey”, hence the loss, but as Loretta Sanchez, they suddenly remembered their old neighbor, or some BS.
Dornan always referred to her derogatorily as “Brixey”. My old boss was babysat by her, she is indeed full blooded Mexican, born in California. Dornan’s son was arrsted for trashing opponent’s signs, but I don’t recall Loretta doing the same thing.
What party was GilChrist running at the time?
American Independent Party. He did pretty darned well - forced a run off election - even though ultimately he didn’t win.
Very Interesting thank you for sharing that with me.

...Rep. Dornan was a proponent of current legal
immigration levels. In the words of National Review editor John OSullivan,
he is a strong supporter of the Wall Street Journals pro-immigration line.

“Thus, on the right wing of the Republican Party, former Rep. Robert Dornan, who opposed illegal but supported legal immigration, commented in 1996 that the prospect of a non-white majority in the United States made no difference to him. “I want to see America stay a nation of immigrants,” he remarked, “and if we lose our Northern European stock - your coloring and mine, blue eyes and fair hair - tough!” Soon after his statement, Mr. Dornan lost his seat to a Democratic rival who emphasized her Hispanic identity.”
Oh it’s very true, I’ll vouch for that claim. I had family living in the district Bob Dornan represented. He refused to take any interest in the 3rd world invasion until he had his own Seat stolen by Loretta Sanchez.
“I remember Bob Dornan and Duncan Hunter as both being fervently anti-illegal immigration.”
Dornan wasn’t interested, fervently or otherwise, until he was defeated by Loretta Sanchez. Hunter was always good on the issue.
