Coming from those lacking understanding of the fact that when the time for those alternatives comes, the last thing on anybody’s mind will be the wear on a coin of known authenticity (which junk silver definitely is).

It has more to do with the weight of the coin. Less silver means less value. What part of less value is part of "lacking understanding?"

War nickels do not suffer that type of degradation.
