The rise of fashion in North Korea
A group of young women pose for a photo in Pyongyang. Notice the fake Prada and Dior handbags
probably imported into North Korea via China

Me thinks you may be a tad biased.
Though this seems a poor batch of n.Koreans to choose from.
Well , after being in Japan for almost 30 years , yes , I suppose I am a tad biased . Those North Koreans wouldn’t even rate a 5 on the Japan Hot Scale . Average at best .
They no longer die in millions. However, a majority of them are still in border-line starvation. If you look at some pictures of ordinary people taken by outsiders, you can tell that their situation is still dire.
Do they still maintain a network of prison camps in which babies are born to prisoners and grow up in prison, as prisoners?
Yes, they do. Recently words got out of NK via defectors about prison camps. Satellite pictures are taken and published. Such a high profile publicity apparently drew NK regime's attention. Some known prison camps were torn down. No way to tell what happened to prisoners inside. Were they dispersed to other camps or simply liquidated? No words on this question yet.
I have to admit, your flame war is the most humorous and least offensive one I have seen in a LONG time!
Bravo!
So basically the posted article is a variation on the “Hitler was kind to his pets” genre of news stories.
It seems to me that Chia Chub's wife and some of the highest people in ruling elite fashion real brand name goods, other elites have knockoffs and the rest have nada.
Think I’ll buy some Ciba-Geigy stock. I think I foresee a boom in silicone usage ahead.
Hurry up with that silicone order! Buy! Buy! BUY!!!
Yeah those Mongolian ladies would kick your butt too LOL!
As a woman I could tell maybe couple of those handbags are real deal majority of them are “Fakes”
You need to tour Wash DC.
All the working chicks there have 500 dollar handbags, shoes and dresses.
It is a fantasy. Pyongyang is North Korea's showcase city to the rest of the world. It is the home of high-ranking government and military officials and popular entertainers. The rank and file residents are hand-selected to live there on the basis of their physical beauty and intelligence, often forcibly separated from their families and relocated to Pyongyang where they are never allowed contact with their loved ones again.
It is "The Capitol" from the Hunger Games movies.
It is the only city foreigners are allowed to visit and North Koreans who don't live in Pyongyang are forbidden to travel to Pyongyang, lest they see the splendor in how North Korea's 1% lives.
The city is a total lie.
The ZIP codes around DC are some of the wealthiest in the country.
Our 'public servants' might not be able to create a health care website, or negotiate trade deals, fairly deal with the tax codes or even handle Social Security properly... but they damn sure know how to secure funding to pay themselves well... very well.
Haha, I see they all have the approved hair styles...
and shoes.
Only three are party members?
There’s only a couple on this list that I haven’t fallen in love with at some point over the past 3 years from watching K-dramas and K-pop.
My current favorite is Lee Si Young who I just finished watching in Birth of a billionaire, then Valid love.
Then there’s the perennial favorite, Suzy, whose “Too many tears” from the Me too, flower OST opened up the glorious world of K-pop for me.
Nice looking girls, but from what I’ve learned about K-pop, without the backing of a big money agency, it’s extremely difficult to make it big over there because unless you have powerful backers, no one wants to give you exposure.
The girls of Crayon Pop are perfect examples. They’re represented by a start up agency and couldn’t get booked on any of the TV music shows, so they took to the streets and performed impromptu “guerilla concerts” until they developed a large enough fan base that the TV shows could no longer ignore them. Even with that, they seem to have been relegated to a “quirky” niche. They don’t exude sexiness like so many of the other popular girl groups, but they have an extremely loyal, if not huge following.
This is just a dance practice video but it’s my favorite song by them, and I think a testament to how good they really are.

And here’s the official release version of the same song.

I don’t know anything about Bebop other than watching a few of their videos from the link you provided, but it looks like they’re following the same path by performing at malls, etc. They definitely have the looks to use the “sex sells” angle if they wish, and very few K-pop artists actually play their instruments, so they have that going for them as well.
