7 Reasons Women Are Getting the Heck Out of Dodge and Seeking Their Dreams Overseas
Sixty and Me ^

What do you do when you want something more and different than you’re getting in your home country? For an increasing number of 60+ women, the answer is to move overseas.

According to the data we collected through our website, Best Places in the World to Retire, there can be a better life out there, if you are willing to uproot and reinvent yourself as an expat in Belize, Nicaragua or Panama.

In addition to the over 5,000 answers and 200 stories on our website, in early July, we released Expats: Expectations & Reality, the first in a series of studies reporting the results of a survey of expats, mainly from the U.S. and Canada and living in Panama, Belize and Nicaragua. For Sixty and Me, we broke out the results just for women, 45 and older (the closest age category we had).

The following are seven smart and reasonable aims these women happily pursued in these small Central American countries.

Panama has been more stable post Noriega than the US has. Panama has gotten better since say 1992 - you can hardly say the same for the US. In just a couple of decades, the American dream has been badly injured, the soeverignty of our nation and our dollar are both far more shaky, health care is getting ready to tank big time.

The big thing to understand is that people thinking about ex patriating are doing so because they are convinced that America is moving in the wrong direction, and other places are moving in the right direction. There are places that so badly want ex pats that they are offering them a low cost lifestyle and just leaving them alone.

Can you really say that we have a government that’s going to leave us alone for the next 10-20-30 years? The answer is no. If the answer was yes, few would even be interested in this.

More flak.

More reason to stay on guard against scams coming from the expat hucksters.

...

Well, Panama was starting from the bottom, and the US was still enjoying the fruits of the Reagan years, but your sales pitch ignores that.

yeah, you figured me out. I make 45 million dollars for every sucker with no savings and a 2K a month SS check that I talk into moving into Central America.

Only a brilliant wizard like you could crack the case. Wow, you’re smart. You’re insightful. Congratulations. You are practically a god, a shaman, a virtuoso of logic and reason. You are just amazing.

I don’t have to figure out the specifics to know you’re most likely up to no good.

You know, it occurs to me that there are more than 120 posts on this thread and several folks asking questions. Obviously there is a thirst for information by those who are thinking of heading abroad.

It’s times like that that make me want to put together a thread with some good resources for those who are already abroad and those who are thinking about it. If you’re game to pitch in on a project, please lemme know by FR mail.

If and when things go south, the last place any human being wants to be is in a banana republic. Wasn't John McAffee kidnapped, held for ransom by corrupt government oficials, escaped from Belize, foraged his way back to the USA a pauper and is now back in the news in trouble again?

The typical american retiree does not have the funds to pay off the drug cartels, and the corrupt junta overlords.

Going south is a sucker's bet.

Involuntary organ donation will follow when civil law disintegrates everywhere south of the border.
