Interesting but obsolete. 4th generation war is not fought Napoleonic with Army’s facing each other. Rather its goal is to avoid direct engagements. Instead the weaker side’s goals are to cause the other side to expend massive resources, to demoralize, to break the will to fight. Simply put, There will not be anybody there for the old style Napoleonic fighters to attack.

Granted, modern warfare often aims to avoid engagements with fixed defenses in favor of mobility, but the scenario could be drawn easily enough to provide a reason for battle.

For example, the defenders might be: stranded by the breakdown of their transport; ordered to stand in place for a rendezvous; to hold the position as a screening force or to gain intelligence; to recover objects or persons of value; and so on. The lack of any explanation in the scenario is puzzling.
