Right on the money! When I first read “1984” back in the 1970s, it all seemed so far fetched.

1984 used to be required reading for HS students......To make them think....

Now..its almost banned....because it doesn't require thinking to see the parallel

Right on the money! When I first read “1984” back in the 1970s, it all seemed so far fetched.

That's why Orwell wrote it. Ordinary people weren't about to get their minds around Communism and totalitarian "thinking", so he had to do something to say, "Look, these people have dialed you up, and they're coming for you."

He saw the Communists in all their sleazy glory when they took over -- a stateless "coup d'etat" -- the Spanish Republican movement on Stalin's orders, and shot their French labor-union allies on trumped-up, bogus "charges". They came for Orwell and other foreign-national allies, too, and Orwell had to run for it, literally running across rooftops.

Doublethink is so plusgood. I bellyfeel doublethink.
