Just out of curiosity, how do they land that Hercy Bird at the other end on a hard runway?

Do they swap out the skids in mid air?

Looks like the skids have holes in them for the wheels to poke through

The skis can move a bit forward and up so the tires pokes through a cutout toward the back of the ski (which you can’t really see here). This might interest you. http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/systems/aircraft/lc-130.htm
