Politico: Breitbart Audience 18.7 Million ‘Conservative Firebrands"

by Breitbart News10 July 10, 2015

From Hadas Gold, Katie Glueck, and Kenneth P. Vogel writing at Politico:

From reader polls and the conservative website’s near cheerleading coverage of the Texas Senator, to donor connections behind the scenes, Cruz likely has the Republican presidential field’s deepest relationship with the Breitbart machine — a relationship he’s seeking to parlay into more energized grassroots support.

Breitbart.com, which boasts of having 18.7 million unique users per month — almost all of them conservative firebrands — is funded in part by New York hedge fund manager Robert Mercer, whose family is bankrolling a pro-Cruz super PAC as well as a political data company called Cambridge Analytica that is working with Cruz’s presidential campaign.

Breitbart.com insists it’s independent, though proudly conservative, and attributes its often-favorable assessments of Cruz to the fact that his independent brand of conservatism is appealing to its readers.

But no one disputes the site’s enthusiasm for Cruz.

The night before his campaign announcement, Cruz invited a Breitbart reporter to spend one-on-one time with him and his family — an item deemed an “exclusive” with photos of the “potential first family” as they got ready for bed.

Politico, eh? Of course! Politico, an internet rag propped up by thousands upon thousands of government office mandated subscriptions.

Well, it is certainly true that Breitbart is very supportive of Cruz, as they should be. He was the winner in their poll by a good margin.

It’s always good to post a piece, direct or indirect, to a leftist rag to see what they are up to.

http://www.politico.com/story/2015/07/ted-cruzs-secret-weapon-breitbartcom-119935.html?hp=t4_r

My point is that rags such as Politico have no basis to characterize any conservative news site that sustains itself on real grassroots subscriptions and advertising whereas Politico would die within a week if it were not for the Obama administration ordering government offices to buy thousands of subscriptions that go unused. And if they so much as write one sentence that is negative about the Obama administration, their jobs are on the block. They are a quintessential example of today’s news propaganda organs for the left. Whereas Breitbart serves its subscribers and advertisers, Politico serves leftist government offices and activists. Politico cannot survive without its left-wing government support whereas Breitbart does just fine without any kind of government support.

And what was the point of the Politico Cruz piece? It was to paint Breitbart as a mouthpiece for Ted Cruz because the vast majority of Breitbart’s subscriber base are Cruz supporters. So it’s an attempt to malign the Breitbart brand as right-wing propaganda. Politico even went so far as to suggest that Cruz was almost literally in bed with Breitbart:

“The night before his campaign announcement, Cruz invited a Breitbart reporter to spend one-on-one time with him and his family — an item deemed an “exclusive” with photos of the “potential first family” as they got ready for bed.”

But Politico’s aim backfires as they inadvertently give Breitbart a good pump by confirming the enormous numbers of Breitbart’s viewers (18 + million); hence, the reason Breitbart posted an excerpt of the Politico story on Cruz and Breitbart.

I guarantee you Politico had no intention of boosting Breitbart or Cruz, but well, that’s how it turned out.

Liberals are more often than not imbeciles to their own cause.
