IMO Cruz and Trump are the only two GOP candidates who could win a general election. And the point about Cruz being a little too conservative is valid. Trump I believe would win handily as he will steal Democrat votes get a good slice of the Indies and enough republicans will turn out even if they are grumping about it.

I don’t think Walker can turn out the base in sufficient numbers. He will not get any Dem votes and I don’t see him getting the Indies out in great numbers either. I see Mitt Romney redux.

Actually I am not saying that being too conservative is a problem. If it was, then then dems wouldn't pretend to be conservatives when they are running. I just think that Cruz rubs too many people the wrong way. Abrasive. Brash. Snearing. That's my read. I would love a real conservative to get this. And Cruz seems to be one of them. If only he can smooth his presentation.

Funny, I think Cruz comes across as too harsh, and agree with your view that Walker comes across as too soft. Is there some way we can combine them?

I think I worry about Trump. I see him as Perot - presenting a very populous message, but no real conservative credentials. He might sneak in on his “you're fired” media popularity - winning with mostly LIVs and squishy dems, and very few conservative votes.
