Governor Scott Walker (R) is a Conservative hero with a record of taking progressives and unions in a state that went for Obama and beating them twice. He's cut government, taken away worker protections, supported government-mandated ultrasounds and empowered the private sector, making him the Republican insiders favorite for the 2016 GOP nomination.
His only problem is, his economic policies continue to fail miserably.
The Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia has ranked the Badger State 49th in its 50-state Leading Index report for April. With an index rank of -0.74 percent, Wisconsin was one of only five states to show contraction.
Experts do not read much into one months data. This index which factors in average manufacturing hours, unemployment, wage trends and building permits often shows a wide margin of error. The state has been especially rocked by the national decline in manufacturing.
However, Walker doesnt really have any positive economic data to point to. Since he took office, his state has fallen from 11th to 44th in job creation. Wisconsins wages are also declining at twice the national level.
Walkers new budget which reads more like a campaign document than a plan to create jobs offers a tax cut that mostly benefits the rich and sucks public funds into private ventures, in the form of school vouchers.
The governor is also rejecting Medicaid expansion and using the Affordable Care Act exchanges to kick 87,000 Wisconsinites off his states Badgercare program.
Meanwhile, his promise of creating 250,000 jobs looks less and less likely to happen.
Austerity seems to work about as well in America as it does in Greece. Maybe losing the recall was the best thing that could have happened for Wisconsins progressive movement. Walkers job creation record is speaking volumes about attacking the institutions that helped create Americas middle class.
LOL, published date June 10, 2013.
Cherry picked data is my guess, all intended to make Scott Walker look incompetent. The unions will go into full revenge mode if Scott Walker gets the GOP nomination
Tax Cuts Havent Done Much to Boost Job Growth in Wisconsin or Other Tax-Cutting States
Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at 9:50 AM by Tamarine Cornelius
More evidence is piling up that states that made big tax cuts in recent years including Wisconsin are failing to keep up with the rest of the country when it comes to job growth.
The idea that cutting taxes could spur economic growth is not new, but advocates for tax cuts overlook several factors that determine the extent to which tax cuts contribute to growth in employment: Taxes pay for services that businesses and families need.
Excellent schools, a solid transportation network, and safe communities all help establish an economic environment conducive to creating jobs and all depend on revenue from state and local taxes.
Other factors are much more important to a states economic growth. Trends in the national and regional economies, the level of education of a states workforce, population growth, and even a states climate can have a bigger impact on the states economy than the amount of taxes paid.
Any economic benefit of cutting taxes is offset by reduced spending by the state, which slows the economy.
Lawmakers have passed nearly $2 billion in tax cuts in Wisconsin since 2011, but those tax cuts havent done much to contribute to job growth. Wisconsins rate of private sector job creation has consistently ranged between 50% and 75% of the national rate since 2011, as shown in the chart below.
(Chart at site)
That slow rate of job growth has its roots in many economic factors, and cannot be solely traced back to economic policies pursued by Wisconsin lawmakers in recent years. But its clear that significant tax cuts in Wisconsin have not led to the hoped-for job growth. - See more at: Link
Not just April, but April 2013. lol.
well, these predictive econ studies aren’t usually worth the paper the’re printed on. but i’d have less distrust in say the laffer/alec economic forcast and that has wisconsins *economic outlook* (what ever that is in the eyes of laffer) currently ranked
#13 of th 50 states.
in addition, using the same 15 point criteria based largely on tax and fiscal policy criteria, wisconsin’s been rising in that index thusly in the last few years according to alec:
2008 #33
2009 #27
2010 #23
2011 #30
2012 #32
2013 #15
2014 #17
2015 #13
anecdotally, i know i’m buying a lot of materials and product from wisconsin business. my wife’s lab (stanford medical) is installing a new medical info system based in wisconsin.
alec has another ranking based on what they call economic performance putting wisc at just #43 (apparently based on gdp, out migration, growth of non-farm payroll (2.3%), etc.
FRs can draw their own conclusions about this and your post, but imo, all of this can easily be interpreted (given wisc history as a deep blue socialist state) as a massive turnaround due to scott walker’s election at this time in that state.
You may want to look at that again. The webpage's mast says today. The article says April 2013. And if you follow the link to the original source it also points out that the data is from April 2013.
As for your new article, does this mean you oppose tax cuts as a stimulus? If so, you need to change your posting name.
By the way, you and your friends that are including "conservative" in your name, you need to realize that that is our sign that you are a phony. If you really were conservative, your posts would show it.
Pissant is gone?
For what ever reason, the policies employed in Wisconsin are not helping the middle class. That is a fact you will hear over and over in economic discussions. Tune in the Fox Business.
While you’re at it, do a little research on Walker’s WEDC, created and Chaired by him until the legislature removed him from that position last month.
Oh, your current favorite boogieman. It is just horible that 60% of the money went to his supporters. Oh, wait, that is pretty close to the percentage of his Gov win. Maybe that isn't the problem.
Maybe it's the 15,000 offshored jobs you claim, even though you only seem to be able to account for 279 of them -
In April of 2013, Eaton laid off 163 employees at its Cooper Power Systems plant in Pewaukee and announced it was moving those jobs to Mexico.
[In 2012] Plexus announced it was laying off 116 workers from its facility in Neenah.
So who do you work for, again?
DITTO THAT!!!
I guess Cincinnatus Wife forgot this article. LOL!
Why would Cincinatus’ Wife post a two-year-old article?
Looks like you really got the Walkerbot Wasp nest worked up this time. LOL!
You are clearly a acolyte of John Maynard Keynes.
You believe that government spending is the cure to economic ills.
Nah, just tired of pretend conservatives telling lies about a good man.
Why so many come running to the defense of a GOPe, Rove-boy candidate who has been on the sidelines of the fight for the Constitution is beyond me.
The original post has been refuted by gadfly and discredited as dated information by T.D. Pole.
These arguments are not being addressed, but, instead, questions are being asked about one’s workplace [to get someone fired?].
I thought only Hillary campaign workers slander GOP candidates with obsolete information, ignores factual responses and then tries to hunt down where critics work?.\
