My mother told me years ago that the idea that the good looking are not smart, and vice versa, is not actually true when you look at the stats.
That may also be in part because very intellectual people don’t put too much thought or effort into how they look.
I’m not sure what stats your mother was looking at but...all I’m saying is that there’s a small chance somebody is extremely smart and beautiful. If most people aren’t extremely smart nor beautiful then the odds of being both extremely smart and beautiful must be quite small.
Gender plays no role. So saying “most beautiful women (or men) are not very smart” doesn’t mean they’re stupid either, just not both “very smart” and beautiful.
