Weird. I cound a dung beetle at my back door a few years ago. Caught it and gave it to our local school.

We keep one of the long metal spring finger "grabbers" handy for snatching the things. A pair of scissors then cuts the head off the body.
They are often too tough to smash, and they can turn on you.

I remember, years ago, on a hiking trip way back in the wilderness of the High Sierra of California, feeling a strange sensation on my left leg as I sat around the campfire one night. Lifted my pant leg up and found a huge centipede, about 3 inches long, crawling on my leg, I jumped up and did quite a dance around the fire until I was sure it was off of me.
