Here is another tidbit.
1791 – On April 27, George Washington visited the plantation thinking it was a tavern. Jeremiah Vereen, Sr. once operated a public house on the property, but by the time Washington visited, Jeremiah Vereen, Jr. had made the house a residence. He entertained and fed Washington without any compensation.
