Far too often, women who choose to be childfree are asked to defend their immature, selfish lifestyles. Theyre told that motherhood is the most important job in the world and face accusations of living meaningless lives.
The number of childfree women is at a record high: 48 percent of women between the ages of 18 and 44 dont have kids, according to 2014 Census numbers.
The Huffington Post and YouGov asked 124 women why they choose to be childfree. Their motivations ranged from preferring their current lifestyles (64 percent) to prioritizing their careers (9 percent) a.k.a. fairly universal things that have motivated men not to have children for centuries. To give insight into the complex, layered decisions women make, HuffPost asked childfree readers to discuss the reasons they have chosen not to have kids and gathered 270 responses here.
Of course, these women dont owe anyone an explanation, but perhaps allowing the public to read their unique perspectives will open peoples minds to the wide range of mature, unselfish motivations that go into deciding not to have kids.

Kids are only blessings if they are raised right. Otherwise they become society’s continual problems. Our current state in this country is totally vindicating evidence of this.
I realize that, statistically, but I still instinctively figure that women with children are married.
“It would be hell to get old with nobody to turn to.”
Yes. It is.

The thing that made me roll my eyes is that they surveyed women 18-44.
It’s not unusual for a woman not to have children at 18... or even to wait until her late 20’s. After 30, there’s some infertility issues going on with the demographic.
But to claim that any 18 year old has to offer ANY justification for why she’s not pregnant yet is telling me that this article is all about glorifying the lack of motherhood.
Had they focused on the 30-44 year old population, they’d be a little more honest.
(Personally... I believe that motherhood is hard word and takes a ton of dedication. Women who don’t want to do it, should NOT do it. I applaud women who know their limitations. Too many neglected and mistreated kids in the world.)
Skimming through those 270 reasons, many of them weren't happy ones.
The childfree movement does exactly what you say that you do not. It does mock those who have children and does celebrate abortion and homosexuality.
I don’t believe anyone here is grouping everyone without children in with the childfree movement. These are not people concerned about personal choices, but a liberal group with an agenda. Their agenda is Zero Population Growth (ZPG). Such aims are not in any way compatible with conservatism or freedom, regardless of one’s faith.
