Correct me if I'm wrong - I'm sure someone will - but I saw an item in the news several decades ago where some Russki's retrieved a Mammoth from the ice in Siberia and cooked some of the meat. As I recall, they found it to be savory, despite the 10,000 year old vintage.

I am surprised that it wasn’t freezer burned.
There was an episode of ‘Northern Exposure’ where the town Doctor found one fully intact and thought he had a gold mine on his hands, but one f the natives cut it up and ate it before he had a chance to sell it.
