I left FB long ago, but if I were still there, iI would be classified as a “homophobe”, I guess.

From the Greek:

“homo” means “The same”
“phobe” means “fear”

So, the word “homophobe” is totally irrational, as it’s etiology says it “fears the same”.

That’s just dumb.

Someone called me that years ago. My reply was I don’t fear them, I just don’t like them or their behavior.

“Homophobia” is a pejorative word cooked up to smear anyone who is straight. It is an attempt to capture the emotional response of the dreaded hydrophobia (rabies) and guide it against an opponent of homosexuality. It is akin to “climate denier” moniker used to capture and exploit the revulsion related to “Holocaust denier”.

Yes, I’ve observed that, too. “Homophobe” can only possibly mean what they want it to if people who give in to homoerotic temptations are called “homos”, but I think they regard that as a slur. (And even then, it would be one of those stupid illiterate constructions combining an English word with a Greek root.)
